CNC Moldmaker Apprentice

Position:                      CNC Moldmaker Apprentice                              Report To:  Shop Supervisor & CAM Manager

Job Summary:            Learn to CNC Machine high precision mold tooling from complex 3D CAD data with a customer focused attitude. Using your ability to demonstrate an internal drive to complete tasks on time, and according to the company Mission Statement of precision and quality requirements.

Responsibilities:         

  • Gain knowledge of molds and molding practices (i.e. plastic injection molds, compression molds, die cast dies)
  • Gain knowledge of moldmaking programming, setup and machining strategies, act as helper as needed
  • Strive for efficient programming and operation of shop machinery (CNC Mills, High-Speed-Milling, etc.)
  • Attend kick-off meetings for mold build strategy
  • Plan and schedule jobs to meet quoted hours and delivery dates
  • Prepare sketches, 2D & 3D CAD and instructions coordinating with team members as needed.
  • Clearly communicate and determine the most efficient method of manufacture with other team members
  • Perform all inspection procedures prior to passing mold components on to next process or lead moldmaker
  • Complete paperwork or instructions for additional details to be performed for mold assembly
  • Assess completed jobs for improvements with necessary personnel for future efficeincy
  • Operate multiple machines in job related functions
  • Maintain a clean and orgainized work area
  • Clean equipment and machines after use and communicate any necessary maintenance to Shop Supervisor
  • Communicate upcoming lack of work to Shop Supervisor prior to completion of job to maintain work flow
  • Work overtime per delivery and customer  requirements
  • Shipping/Receiving responsibilities as needed

Requirements:

  • Good written and interpersonal oral communication skills
  • Use shop mathematics, geometry, trigonometry, and calculator proficiently
  • Computer skills, for inter-office email and job communication
  • Basic Programming knowledge using Mastercam X for programming 2D & 3D toolpaths.
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Attention to detail and pride in your work
  • Work cooperatively with fellow employees in a team environment
  • Additional responsibilities as may be assigned by Shop Supervisor

Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum one year CNC mill work experience
  • Experience in programming and running CNC machines
  • Ability to maintain and hold close tolerances
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and move heavier objects with proper equipment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and high levels of stress
