Position: Lead Moldmaker/Toolmaker Report To: Shop Supervisor
Job Summary: Build quality tooling from complex mold and part designs with a customer focused attitude, and the ability to demonstrate an internal drive to complete tasks on time and according to customer’s expectations and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and schedule jobs to meet quoted hours and delivery dates, prepare needed prints and instructions to coordinate work needed from outside vendors with Shop Supervisor
- Attend kick-off meetings and provide input for design and mold build
- Clearly communicate the most efficient build process to others working on your job
- Perform all inspection procedures prior to mold shipment
- Complete paperwork prior to mold shipment (ie: Checklists, ect…)
- Assess completed jobs for improvements with necessary personnel following mold shipment
- Operate multiple machines to accomplish mold build objective
- Clean equipment and machines after use and communicate any necessary maintenance to Shop Supervisor
- Communicate lack of work to Shop Supervisor to maintain efficiencies within the shop
- Train and guide assigned apprentice employees as needed
Requirements:
- Ability to lead and organize several jobs simultaneously
- Knowledge of molds and molding practices (i.e. plastic injection molds, metal injection molds, die cast dies)
- Efficient at running shop machinery and equipment (manual mills, surface grinders, CNC Sinker EDM, etc.)
- Use of shop mathematics, geometry, trigonometry
- Good written and interpersonal oral communication skills, computer skills for communication
- Knowledge of Mastercam for reviewing mold designs and creating shop drawings
- Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
- Attention to detail, taking pride in your work
- Work cooperatively with fellow employees in a team environment
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Overtime required to meet project deliveries and customer requirements
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by Shop Supervisor
Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Minimum five years bench work experience
- Experience in building all types of injection molds
- Ability to maintain and hold close tolerances
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and move heavier objects with proper equipment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and high levels of stress
